Owen Freeman-Daniels, Ward 3 City Councilor

5/20 North St Memo

Week of May 20, 2013

For the week of May 20, 2013, Caracas Construction Corporation, working under contract with the City of Northampton, will be fine grading the new roadway base from Walnut Street to between Parsons Street and View Avenue. The base coat of paving for this section is scheduled to occur on Wednesday. Water system connections at Day Avenue and Bates Street will likely occur on Wednesday during paving. Once the base paving is in place the contractor will begin installing granite curbing. It is anticipated that the roadway from Parsons Street to Bates Street will be reclaimed by June 1st.

Due to the narrowness of the roadway and limited working area, DETOURS around the work will typically be in place during work hours. Motorists should seek alternate routes or expect detours or delays.

Work hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm, and the roadway will be open to two-way traffic after 3:30 pm.

Please contact Felix Harvey at 413-587-1570 x4313 if you have questions.

Hearing on Proposed Zoning Changes 5/13

From the Office of Planning & Development:

“Proposed zoning amendments in the residential districts have been submitted to City Council as the next step in the long conversation about zoning changes for which public meetings were held last September. Since the September public forums on the draft, changes have been made based on comments, concerns and issues stemming from those conversations.  The proposed zoning amendments that have now been formally submitted for Council review/adoption seek to modify existing regulations in order to reflect the existing neighborhood districts surrounding Florence Center, downtown Northampton and neighborhoods in between.
